The Author

Author Kerry CooneyKerry Cooney has gathered a wealth of experience second to none throughout her years of commitment to families and young people. It was when she began her work as a house parent for offending teenage wards of the state that she first discovered her passion for helping the young people no body else thought could be helped.

Through out the years she has continued her work within schools, working in both primary and secondary schools, encompassing children with behavioural issues, learning disabilities and intellectual disabilities. This experience has enabled her to produce workable strategies within the classroom for these challenging children and young people. It was during this time that Kerry began her research into ADHD, and how it impacted the child's life in school as well as socially and emotionally.

Moving on from the school system, Kerry began working with families at risk of break down. This took on a broad range of situations from parental substance abuse, mental illness, intellectual disabilities, neglect, abuse and poverty. Kerry worked closely with parents in crisis, educating and supporting them, and setting practical and achievable goals to see the family unit thrive. During this period Kerry continued her research into ADHD and began running workshops for parents. These workshops were incredibly well received, with parents finding Kerry's no nonsense, down to earth approach easy to relate to. This approach, her practical understanding, along with career and life experience, provided the environment for life changing and empowering workshops.

As word about these ADHD courses spread, so did the demand for Kerry's expertise. She began running workshops and seminars for primary schools, secondary schools, child and family day care centres, universities and welfare agencies as well as offering specialized one on one sessions for parents.

Kerry continued this work when she became a children's worker for a domestic violence service, yet again putting in place practical and workable strategies for the care of children in harsh situations.

Beyond her employment experience Kerry has also raised three children, one of whom has ADHD and a specific learning disability, giving her a personal wealth of experience and understanding that speaks directly to parents living with a child who has ADHD.
